Might work but the angle will be off slightly.  Does not hurt to place the piece there and see how it looks.

Looks like a piece that you could make from some Styrene sheet.

The RH and LH definitely will have different angles, but I go with John, fabricate one from plastic, maybe you have a model kit with a large sprue you could shape if you don't have a stock of model plastic.  Any hard plastic of sufficient size would work with a little whittling, and black paint.  Piece of scrap lexan or plexiglass laying around your place?

Is it plastic or metal? If its plastic, take John's suggestion and make it from sheet styrene. If its metal, then order a sheet of phosphor bronze and a bottle of blacken it.  You can cut the sheet with tin snips to fit and then blacken it to match, yet it will remain conductive. Just epoxy it onto the base.

Sure looks like plastic to me from where it is.  I would think metal would be a big problem at that location.

I am assuming from replies that this missing piece is not necessary for electrical conductivity, correct?

I think you will find that it is.  It is extends the center rail. Put a magnet on it.

I wonder if I could simply cut this piece out of soft strip magnet . . .

It it's really metal, the strip magnet ain't gonna' work, it doesn't have conductivity!  I'm surprised that is metal, but since I don't have Scaletrax, I can't say for sure.

Comparing them to my Ross switches, I believe the missing piece is metal to keep the hot rail gap to a minimum.  The missing piece looks like it is close to the lead rails, but so are Ross'.  Needless to say, for all these high end switches all car and engine wheels will need to be in gauge or it will short.  No need to ask me how I know

If you go dead rail you will not have this problem. I think that dead rail will be the future.

Before I die, I fully expect to be able to run a train by putting on my engineers cap with the flip down heads up display and run my trains accordingly.  No more annoying multiple manufacturer's remotes that I never can find the right buttons to press.  No more conversation about whether the third rail detracts from the hobby.  No more as you say, 'pick up problems'.

I am just going to be able to enjoy running my trains while pretending that I am a real engineer.

The two pieces should have two different angles but be mirror images of each other. Copy the one that you have and then turn it over to get the opposite angle.
