I was on the eastern corridor riding Amtrak regional service and stumbled on this interesting locomotive still in service.
Any one know anything about them. Does anyone make an 3 rail locomotive of this?
Thanks.

Look up AEM-7. These are the successful successors to the venerable GG1.

In the early 1980's I was priveledged to get a tour of EMD led by Hot water. At that time they were building the AEM-7's and it was a sight to see! The car body was complete and all the electrical was being installed from above. Cables were laid out over the tops of the side walls and looked like a spaghetti explosion! I think this was EMD's first entry into building electrics???

Correct, the first entry building passenger electric locomotives, and the last!
But not EMD's first electric locomotive:

I remember seeing these monsters in Lancaster, PA in the 1970's.
The AEM7's have been great over the years. Some are getting close in age to some the GG1's they replaced.

Yes, I don't think EMD will let the "CAT" out of the bag,, but I don't think they will be making any pure electrics for a while.

I am assuming that you received that information from the CEO and Board of Directors of Caterpillar?
hmm so getting back on track: Does anyone have an O scale set of the above?
What manufacture(s) makes the best representative cars and engine?
Looks like Atlas made a version of the locomotive but in the older paint scheme?
