I have to say that in the last few years being a railfan on the East Coast became very exciting. There was the 765 Horseshoe Trip, as well as the Family Portrait and now Streamliners.

The North Carolina Museum of Transportation is emerging as one of the key rail museums in the country. But Streamliners reminded me of Railfair Sacramento in 1998/1999. The question I have is this...can Spencer outdo itself?

Can they have an event in a few years called "Steam Engines to Spencer" and with that maybe have 15 to 20 steam engines brought into Spencer. (ie 3751, 261, 1225, 765, 611, New Jersey Central switcher, etc..)  Anything is possible but in the last few years Spencer has really outdone itself and emerged more and more as a key player. Its role in the 611 also serves as a key role to...

When UP swallows up CSX and they bring the 4014 to Georgia, I'll let you know how that turns out.

Steam to Spencer - sounds good to me, and just imagine what it would sound like!

I'd be willing to bet attendance would be as good, if not better then all events preceding it.  It would likely be very cost prohibitive - moving either live or inoperable steam locomotives vs diesels.

One alternative - though unlikely, would be an Amtrak heritage event.  Or, everything Amtrak and Autotrain.  GG1's, turbines through to the Acela.
