Can’t Program Command Switches

Without a base they will not program. You have to use a ASC2 I believe to use them without a base. The “command” part requires a base.

Good catch thank you. ASC2 is the missing link it seems.

BUT… even without that, shouldn’t the lights blink after a 1-2 second button press? Or am I concerned over nothing?

The switch wants to see a TMCC carrier, since you don't have a command base, it never sees the signal.

I really appreciate the help on here! You all are great. That’s reassuring news. Off to track down that ASC-2 while the world waits to see what the Base 3 ends up looking like!

Saw Legacy bases clearing $2K plus on eBay today!

Note that the ASC-2 will require you to wire to each switch to control them, it won't be a wireless affair!

Crap. So without a base (unobtanium), there’s no wireless switch operation no matter what I do… is that accurate?

Yep. Wireless operation needs a Lionel command base of some vintage.

Hunt for an original (and affordable) Cab1 base and handheld, or the (currently out-of-stock everywhere) Legacy-capable Cab1L base and handheld.

If you choose to go the ASC2 route without a base, then you'll need to build up an LCS system that starts with the LCS power connector, WiFi module, ASC2, and PDI cables.  Then you'll have to use a app-based controller that connects to the LCS WiFi to control the switches.  Additional components required are an additional power feed to the ASC2 to drive the relays and perhaps  an iPad to host the Lionel LCS App.

Note: the Base3, when available, incorporates the WiFi and LCS power components.

The original Cab1 kit is the simplest and cheapest way to get a TMCC signal on your layout while you wait for the Cab3.

Maybe post on this sites Wanted To Buy section for a Cab1 base and remote.   I've also seen them on trainz.com.  Probably the cheapest option to get the switches programmed while waiting for the Cab3.  

Or maybe borrow one?

Check with JR Junction, they had the CAB1L/BASE1L in stock yesterday.

Thanks for the tips and patience! I’ll get it figured out eventually. The base situation is frustrating, tough time to try and get into anything other than LC Bluetooth operation. Really hope they get the Base 3 figured out/released next year.
