For some reason I am not able to get the reply button to work on the OGR Forums. This just happened in the last week or so. Everything else seems to work fine as you can read this post. No problems on other forums. Anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this to happen??

I'd do the usual fix for stuff like this first, clear your browser's cookies, see if that helps.
Also may be worth checking JAVA to see if you are running the latest version. Also of the background functions of this board are JAVA based
See the JAVA site to update
Re-boot the computer. That's always the first line of defense whenever it doesn't work right.
Nothing has changed here...
this computer fix came
right from and on-line magazine
"9 times out of 10 you can fix your computer
simply by unplugging it!"
I can do that and Im not even an IT guy!
Big Jim cannot reply to this thread, so I am copyting in this email exchange we just had:

Rich,
I have no doubt that the problem is on my end. Yes, I tried rebooting the computer several times along with deleting cookies, logging out, restarting and logging back in. I am thinking this problem may have started with a new JAVA update, but, I don't know enough about it to say for sure. I can post a new topic and edit that topic until I move away from the forum. When I go back, it will not let me edit again or reply.
The reason I think it may be JAVA related is only because I cannot view the U.S. Time Clock which is also uses JAVA. I have no problems with other forums. I just don't know what is going on.
Take care,
Jimmy
I responded with this:
Jimmy,
Yes, it likely does have something to do with the latest Java update. Our forum uses Java extensively, but many others do not. That's probably why you're having trouble on OGR and not elsewhere.
Unfortunately I am not that good with troubleshooting Java. I don't know a lot about it and how it works. I honestly don't know what to tell you. I'll make a post on your thread on the forum and see if anyone there can help you.
Can anyone chime in here with a suggestion for Big Jim?
I sent him an email. JAVA has a habit of leaving old version behind when updates are applied (my system at work uses JAVA for login, its a pain) You can google how to remove all JAVA or check these directions
Then reinstall the latest one
Luckily my system is going to remove the need for JAVA by December. Good riddance, JAVA and FLASH are huge security holes
I'd remove ALL versions, including the latest. Then do a clean install again and see if that brings it back.
Although it is very prevalent in electronic devices today, Java can make for a tremendous nightmare in some situations. Case in point, I use windows 7 and have the top tier of a well known major security suite protecting the computer against, virus, trojans and malware and yet this past Septembe, I spent $100.00 and over a six day period it took four of their security technicians remotely working on my computer for just shy of nineteens hours to get it back into working order because of the gaping security holes it sometimes opens up in some programs thus leaving a system vulnerable to being overtaken by all kinds of potentially nasty situations found on the internet.
Changing to Google Chrome seems to have cured the problem for now.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I can hear the snickers from the steam chest now.
After removing JAVA, it didn't fix the problem. I'm still curious as to what has happened as I have never had a problem anything like this happen with IE. A lot of stuff started happening, including a big "magnifying glass" icon in the upper left corner of photos and highlighted catch words, a lot of unwanted ads in the margins and other screwy stuff. Virus scans were negative and adware scans brought up nothing that hadn't been seen before. The quest continues.
Glad you are up and running again, Jim!
Just because things like this bother the heck out of me, I tried removing newer versions of IE and went back to IE-9. For whatever reason that cleared up the problem with not being able to reply. Go figure.
Ah yes... un-doing a Microsoft "update." Probably the best thing you could ever do, Jim!
I no longer do Windoze Updates. Every time I did a new "update" the computer slowed down a little more. I un-installed most of the Windoze "updates" from the last year and my computer's performance has improved tremendously. No more Microsoft "updates" for me.
I swear they purposely build in the performance slow-downs with each update so that you eventually get frustrated and have to buy a new computer. No thanks...the one I have works just fine now, since I uninstalled most of the so-called "updates."
