I am trying to figure out if it is possible to run a PS3 locomotive using the MTH RTR (wifi) system? -or- if I will need to invest in additional components? Thanks!

Just a power supply and the app. The power supply should have the standard MTH power barrel.
Not sure by RTR wifi if you are talking about the explorer or remote commander. You can run PS3 locos with the DCS explorer or the DCS remote commander. To use the remote commander it must have the default factory addressing, which can be reset with a transformer whistle / bell buttons
