C&O No 2696 made a run at the weekly meeting last evening and had a good time at it. The smoke was exceptional at times and I'm wondering if some internal plumbing has become dislodged as she had steam coming from the chest and boiler too!

Very nice C&O Berk. Sam!
That's awesome Sam! It looks so good on that layout too! Is your club in Western NC? I'd love to see the layout in person!

Thanks Volphin - Yes we're about 25 miles west of Asheville off of I-40.
We have a monthly open house on the second (THIS) Sunday from 2 - 4pm. All are welcome!
Good looking picture Sam. The fancy bridge adds to it.

Very nice looking.
The Berkshire is one of my favorite steam engines. The Lionel version has some of the best sounds and steam in the industry. You picked a very good engine to show off, Sam. I would have loved to be there.

Thank you for the invite! I'll make it a point to stop by for the next one... the wife's birthday is this weekend. If you can, email me the address. Thanks again Sam!

First off, great photos Sam!
Not internal plumbing really but the bottom boiler stack fits into the brass outlet of the smoke unit.
You shouldn't be getting smoke from anywhere but the stack. Has this loco ever had the shell off? Alignment of the stack and smoke unit outlet is a bit tricky, a few of the "first generation legacy" berks including the NKP and PM had misaligned stacks from the factory.
I serviced the smoke unit on my PM berk and when I put it back together I had smoke leaking like you described.
Shining a small flashlight down the stack you can see if it is misaligned. I have a small L.E.D light that works great for this as well as seeing if the wicking is wet or burned.
The stack should be the same diameter straight through to the wicking in the unit.
These berks go together just fine even if the stack is misaligned with the smoke unit, which is part of the problem. Its the only loco I have that does.
If its misaligned remove the shell screws and raise the shell up off the chassis. It doesn't have to be completely off just an inch or so. Then lower the front of the loco first checking alignment of the stack while bringing down the cab end.
