This was a real chance sighting.

Earlier today was driving home and was close to the old B&O station in Old Town Gaithersburg, MD. I knew the Capitol Limited would be passing soon coming from Washington Union Station to Chicago so I pulled into the lot next to the station so I could watch it go by.  The Cap came through on time (about 4:40) and - surprise  -  at the rear were three (I think three) passenger cars marked California Zephyr. Went by so quickly I only caught one name, Silver Solarium.

A cool little sighting on what was obviously a special excursion train with these interesting cars.

You might Google the "Silver Solarium" and learn about the tour company that owns and operates those cars. They are probably enroute back to the west coast, and then up to Portland, OR. Both dome cars will be on our SP 4449 excursion June 24 & 25 from Portland to Bend, OR and return.

Thanks. Will do. Definitely interested in learning more.

"Silver Lariat" made it's way across the Mendota-Barstow  (IL) freight-only Branch line, on  a Burlington steam fan trip somewhere in 1957-58-59 time period. It was pictured in Harold Edmonson's soft-cover book "Steam on Q", at the on-line Denrock depot.  Interesting to see a California Zephyr dome car popping up on a branch and behind a steam locomotive !

Note that Atlas did a "Silver Lariat" CZ dome car.  So, feel free to couple up some of your Atlas CZ cars to Burlington steam locomotives ! It happened in real life !
