Dave, did you make your own magnet? It looks different from stock.

John, Yes, my crane didn't come with an electromagnet, so I made my own. I wrapped a short bolt with many turns of #26 magnet wire and wrapped electrical tape around the outside.
I've taken old track and cut it up then go to town on the pieces with a hammer and make it look like scrap metal. Old bent rusty nails with heads and tips cut off to look like trashed rebar or whatever, gears, wheels, smaller motor parts. Possibilities are endless really. I have about 5 lbs. of scrap/junk for my loads.
Dave, how did you handle the 5-conductor cable, so it doesn't interfere with lateral movement?

Take a look at the photo. The cable goes through a hole in the table that is half way between the maximum excursions of the lateral movement and enough cable slack is allowed so that at the extreme ends the cable is almost tight.
Thamks. I warched the video and overlooked the photo above. On the video, I couldn't see it flex.
I have always wanted one of these cranes and the new issue can be run by a Cab 1-L. The creativity of the minds on this forum never fails to amaze me! A thumbtack in a wood barrel! Who knew?
