Mercy!
I was introduced to the San Diego &Arizona Eastern by reading an article by Richard Steinheimer, called San Diego, the Hard Way, in the May, 1952, Railroad Magazine. At that time, the daily train each way was powered by an SP Baldwin AS-616, with 2-6-0 steam helpers on the mountain.
This is the first time I have ever seen what the track actually looked like. Now, that's real railroading, I'll tell you.
