I just went through the internet site for Cass, Scenic Railroad, and found it seems up and running, in spite of/after COVID. Been several years now since l have been there . Shays shown as operating, but l think they had a Heisler? Does it operate? The Whitewater Valley RR out of east central Indiana had a small Heisler stored there in the past (private party owned). Any Heislers operating anywhere?

Cass' Heisler no. 6 is being used in neighboring Durbin, W.Va., as interim power for the Durbin Rocket trips. These operate on remnants of the former Chesapeake & Ohio Greenbrier Division, as opposed the the regular ex-Mower line out of Cass. The line was mostly wiped out in a catastrophic 1985 flood, and repairs were originally slated to be finished last year, but the supply chain is doing its thing and causing delays. At this time, the locomotive is landlocked from Cass itself, so you won't see her slugging up Back Mountain this year. Outside of West Virginia, four other Heislers operate, two in Oregon and two in California.
Check out this video for an in-depth look at her new gig.
Thanks. With $4.00 gas, l didn't want to drive to Whitewater to see if that pocket -sized Heisler was still there. I think another small one was shown in a magazine as stored in a garage. Dunno if l still have that mag. Oregon and and Calif. might have fire and heat obstacles. At least there is one near Cass. Speaking of garages, that is about what l found a small Shay in on the south side of the Little River across from that lumber mill site that the Little River RR served in Tennessee.
As mentioned, Heisler 6 is operating in Durbin. There's a second one in kit form in Durbin as well.
There's another Heisler that operates at the Silver Creek & Stephenson Railroad in Freeport, IL.
