Obviously the state of West Virginia wants out of the logging railroad/park business.
Sorry......absolutely ZERO new information. On the last Cass thread I voiced my opinion the D&GV RR would operate Cass as they already have operations in the area and are the only rail line from Cass RR to the outside world. D&GV RR does a very good job with it's operations and some of the plans now in the works are fantastic. The state of WV does not need to operate Cass in order to make it a viable operation. And everything I know WV retains ownership......I see no bad in this.......IMHO ONLY!
Dave ,any word on how it will effect the current state employees of the park ? They pay into the state retirement system and I'm sure would have to relocate if the state pulls out of the day to day operations.
Up until 2013 I had relatives working there. So I am not sure what current employees have been told. But WV has many degrees of quasi private / government corporations.
What will end up here at Cass has yet to be finalized I bet.
I just got back from Cass. I was told by a friend of mine who is a conductor/brakeman that the changes will take place on the first of November. The State of West Virginia currently loses over a million dollars a year operating the railroad. He said this change might be what saves this railroad.
