This past weekend I was at a reputable dealer making a purchase of standard gauge items when one of the salesmen and I struck up a conversation regarding MTH’s LCT lineup.  As the conversation ended, the last sentence from the salesman was “…and I don’t believe that Mike will be renewing the LCT contract when it runs out soon.  He’ll probably want to continue tinplate, but under his own brand.”

Does anyone have any information of this or is able to verify if MTH is not looking to renew their contract for the Lionel name?  I’m not really in the “know” with this kind of stuff and was surprised to hear this tidbit on information.

I never asked about the upcoming catalog since it didn’t occur to me at the time.

Only Mike Wolf and a few others would know about the LCT thing and i doubt they are talking.

Last year I was told the Mono-rail and now Lipzig station were made under the Tinplate Traditions brand because they did not want to pay Lionel royalties for something they never made. That came from MTH at the York booth.

Jim, Brian & Frank,

Our opinions are pretty close together. Except for the fact that Mike's is the one doing the production. IMHO Lionel's purse is not big enough to even think about making their own tinplate. If anything Mr. Wolfe is the one in control and in a position to spell out his own terms...Again

I went to the WGH show in Novi in 02/2014 and the MTH crew, as well as Matt Ashba  informed me that the Lionel/MTH agreement was extended for three more years because the arrangement had been good for both parties...That means there are two years left.  I hope MTH continues to reproduce some tinplate items from other manufacturers.

I would be totally fine going back to Tinplate Traditions. I am not sure We would be loosing much anyway? What else is there that could be made under the Lionel name? I would like to see MTH get creative and make new items that have never been made before, however, I would also not want to see them take a loss on something that might not spark everyone's interest.
