The Rocky Mount Railroad Museum will be celebrating National Train Day, Sat. May 11, at the historic Rocky Mount train station in Rocky Mount, NC. There will be model train displays, railroad memorabilia, games, food and of course plenty of full scale train action on the CSX mainline. Fun starts at 10 am and continues until 2 pm.
Ima gonna give Union Station, DC one more chance to get it right. The first one was a joy, probably cuz no one knew about it. After that it was an far east part of the world fire drill. Amidoinitrite?

I attended a few of the Washington ones...I can't remember if it was the first or second one but it had to be the worst run event I've ever seen. No organization, a total free-for-all, people everywhere with no respect or regard for others and an overall terrible experience. Tried it again the following year and it was just as bad, if not worse. Never again.
A TERRIBLE event. While the concept is good for railroading and model railroading, the way the event was with no organization and a 2 hour wait to get to see the exhibits only to be pushed through and have people arguing and fighting with other attendees, exhibitors and the few organizers around, was far from beneficial. A MAJOR waste of time and money.
Well, SJC, I'll give it one more try. The weekend after that Walkersville is running a steamer and I;ll be taking the kids to that. We always enjoy Walkersville.

I plan to be in Walkersville on the 18th for much of the day. Unfortunately, a class reunion is keeping me from doing the photo special that evening, which I did last year and greatly enjoyed. I joined WSRR on the train crew as brakeman this year. Great group of folks. I will not be crewing that day as I can't devote the entire day to being there. I'll ride once, snap a few photos, hope to be able to get back before the 126 goes onto her next stop, and head on my way.
No celebrating for me. I will be attending a wedding on the beach at Dewey Beach, DE that day.
I'm reading an artical in American Profile that said National Train Day is the 10th, Is this right?
From the B&O Calendar of Events:
For you kids in the Washington, DC area, Amtrak is going to give 35 minute rides on the Acela from DC's Union Station. Only 5 bucks for an adult and kids 12 and under are free. Line up at 1030AM. As stated earlier, all but the early years of these events were badly managed but it might be worth it to ride on an Acela which is on my bucket list. Big woof on that one!

Hmm. Sounds interesting (the Acela). Have never been to one of these events, but may try to give it a go. Thanks for the tip.
I'm chasing 261 from Minneapolis to Duluth.
Wish I knew about the Acela trips sooner....I see the Acela everyday and have toured the interior but have never ridden on it...would have loved to have known about that earlier and would've made arrangements to go. Maybe next year....
