Is it possible to to change some of the earlier Lionel TMCC railsounds 4 steam locomotive equipment from 2 chuffs to 4 chuffs per revoluion

There are a number of ways to do it.
Back when ERR offered sound boards for steam they included a magnet and a small reed switch. You would mount the magnet on a tender wheel and locate the switch close to it. Many tender wheels are half the diameter of the engine driver so every revolution would give two chuffs. Add a second magnet for 4 chuffs.
Next you can get a chuff generator from forum sponsor Hennings trains. With a tach strip in the motor flywheel and a sensor over that tach strip you can calibrate it for 4 chuffs.
Another way is to find a TAS EOB drop in board. This will not only give you cruise, it has an output that can be calibrated for 4 chuffs.
Finally you can replace the cam located on the axle with one that has four lobes.
Not easy on most engines but if you are mechanically inclined its your least expensive option.

Obviously, I'd be recommending my Chuff-Generator. While it's possible to modify the cam, getting the cam shape right and the microswitch to still trigger relability is not that easy. If you like smoke effects, I can also heartily recommend the Super-Chuffer II.
If you're going to do the installations yourself, I think you'll find it easier to do the electronics than screwing around with magnets on drivers.
Thanks both of you for the quick replies.
