had to replace the smoke unit with new one then it didn't work fan wouldn't spin o took it apart and fixed it lastnight
Smoke units are a high maintenance item, no doubt about it.
Be interested to know what you found wrong with the fan - wiring, smoke fluid clogging up the fan motor or whatever. I have the VL Challenger, which is a pain in terms of smoke unit performance/maintenance.
the fan in a brand new smoke unit just wasn't spinning new smoke unit and basically no smoke so I took it apart and saw the fan not spinning but could kick start it and it would spin for a few seconds then stop so I got out the needle nose and pulled the fan blades took a drop of oil put it on the bearing below the fan and replaced the blades turned it all back on and wola it worked
also this was just a replacement smoke unit nothing has been done to it . but I do have John's super chuffer installed thanks to John never been happier I now have a second smoke unit for this engine that I might try the resistor change on it to get it back to a smoking fool . yea it use to smoke more than it does now !!!

Aha, I thought it might be that although I can't tell which Challenger model you have. I assume it's Lionel.
