I am considering buying a new TIU Rev L. I operate a 2 rail DC powered layout that currently uses DCS and a TIU for two of my four tracks. I read that the "common" of the new TIU is "no longer connected internally". Why was this change made? I assume as a two rail operator this has no effect for me. Comments please!
I also read that for all TIU versions, the Variable channels can be converted to Fixed but will not transmit DC, and will only transmit AC power. Is this correct, and why were these channels designed this way? It would be a lot easier for me to reconfigure the Variable channels than to buy a second TIU.....and potentially have to run a Super mode, with all that entails.....
I am powering the TIU Fixed channels with DC power, since I have a number of brass locomotives that require 12 VDC. If the Variable channels will not pass DC power, can I power the two Variable channels with AC power, and run a mix of DC and AC power into the TIU??? My reason for this would be to run a mix of brass DC and MTH engines on the same layout, although on different tracks. (The layout's four mainline tracks are blocked and isolated electrically from each other.)
Is there a software package/revision available that will permit the Variable channels to be reconfigured to pass DC power?
(I admit that this is an unusual situation...!)
