  I have read the archives on SCIIs and DZ1000s but didn't find any wiring instructions.  I have had an SCII controlling 2 pairs of connected O22 switches and 1 pair of Ross with DZ1000s.  Due to having 4 GG1s from 2 manufacturers, none of which will negotiate the O22 crossovers, I have replaced the O22s with Ross switches and dz1000s.  The original wiring was done by a helper who is no longer around. The SCII has 6 connection points in 2 rows.  The original setup was DZ100 top row center. Wired  thru and out with center wired to to common bus. Red hot from dz wired to separate power source.  The Loinel O22 pairs were wired to top row right and bottom row right. Thru/out with common from switch in center.  All worked great.  I have installed the 2 new pairs of ross with DZ100 machines. The machines are not yet wired so testing by manually throwing the switches and running my worst derailing GG1, operation is perfect. Mechanically, problem solved.  Back to wiring: The 3 conductor cables are run from each switch pair to a contact set on the SCII.  The red from each dz100 is diverted to separate power, and a wire connects the center connector of each SCII connector to layout common bus.  At this moment, I have suspended work pending clarification of proper wiring mostly because I have no power lite on the SCII.  I am pretty confidant of the wiring to the connectors, but I am not sure that the original connection positions are right for using all DZ machines.  I think the SCII might have been getting its power from the O22 switches and I am no longer getting that power.  Also there is no real clarity in the SCII manual to indicate whether I need to have one of my switches wired to top left (position ).  Some advice on how to handle this wiring would be appreciated.

Thanks for the replies.   Thwe removal and replacement of the O22 switches with Ross/dz 1000 switches has been a challenge. at this point I have the four switches wired as two crossovers.  Initially, the first pair I wired threw in different directions Evan though the green/red/yellow wires were wired together.  I spoke with Dennis Zander and was told that the one DZ1000 I have that has screw terminals was a problem.  Not having any guide, I wired the pins on the 1008 relay to the screw terminals on the DZ1000 with the relay wires on top.  WRONG!!  That is upside down and created the problem with the switches throwing in opposite directions.  It also kept indicator lights I have above the layout from being controlled by the relay.  I also found out from Dennis that the recommendation on his website to place a resistor in the green and yellow wires between the switch motor and the SCII is only necessary to make the Direction LEDs on the switch machine stay on constantly.  Since my crossovers are under a mountain, I don't need the resistors.  Only remaining task is to run the yellow and green crossover wires to the thru and out connections of the SCII port for each switch/crossover and a. Separate single wire from the center tap on each port to my layout common ground.  I know this is long, but I hope my experience will be of value to others in similar situations.

 

 

 

Hit a dead stop.  The SC2 shows no power lite when the DZ is connected red to constant voltage, green to thru SC2 connector, yellow to SC2 out connector,

center SC2 connector to layout common bus.  I have checked the SC fuse, no problem.

  My understanding is that one switch must be wired to position 1 on the SC2 to provide power for the SC2.  At this point, I have only a single DZ1000 wired to the SC2 for testing.  All connections for constant power, common and switch directional

wires and sc2 connections are thru a terminal strip.

   I noticed that The Lionel video shows all test connections being made thru position

3 on the SC2 with no other connections evident.  The demonstrator in the video

mentioned that position 3 is most convenient but that any position would work.

Anybody have any ideas why I can't get a power lite?

Apparently you didn't notice in the video that the SC-2's green light was lit before Mike connected anything.  The wallwart cable is connected to the backside of the SC-2 and running over to the edge of the table.

 

I thought we had determined that you needed to use the wallwart several days ago on the phone!

Mission completed!   Thanks to a very long conversation with Dale, the DZ crossovers are operating perfectly, powered by the wallwart.  I had found a work around by wiring one Lionel O22 to position one on the SC. I was then able to use DZ switches for the remaining switch positions.  A pain. but workable.  At Dale's recommendation, I got rid of the O and ,using the wallwart, was able to operate DZs in any of the 6 connectors on the SC2.  Does NOT, as I had previously heard, require a switch in position 1, nor was it necessary to cut any traces on the SC2.

  Also spent a lot of time miss wiring the dzs for non derailing.  Was trying to wire both out and thru, but only needed wire on thru side. 

   Thanks loads to Dale and all who offered advice.  On to the next project!
