Good idea!!

I've used a small funnel of Duct Tape...sticky side in, of course.  Wrap a short strip tightly to the periphery of the bulb.  Advantage: If the glass bulb breaks in the process, the tape helps to control the glass bits.

Which leads me to my last resort....   Bust the glass bulb, pour out the shards, grab the needle-nosed pliers, twist the bulb base out.  And....wear safety glasses.....just in case.

But, I'll have to try the shrink tubing, too.  Might help in placing fragile or painted items for which you don't want scratches in handling!

Good idea!!

Getting them out, I've used elect. tape and even paper towel as a buffer with needle nose.

If I break the glass, I have the pliers to grab the base right in my hand

Having those as dedicated bulb pullers would be cool .

Putting them in usually isn't an issue, I'm good with tiny items, but if I knew I had those, I might use them.

The pliers I used didn't have teeth by luck rather than smarts.
I found I could slip the tubing on and off easily.
They're not dedicated to relamping.
