I followed the instructions included with the switch, but I do not see anything about a thin metal rod included in the switch.

when I removed the stand the 2 1/2” thin metal rod fell out.  Can’t find where it goes back when changing the stand.  Anybody that has flipped the stand that could help would be appreciated

It's just a fake switch rod to simulate a real switch.  Of course it might not be the shiny wire you get w/ the Lionel switches.  I think I am typical- I removed the ones that didn't fall out on their own and threw them away.  I wasn't able to find any pics of switches w/ lanterns like on the Lionel Fastrack switches.  The one below resembles the Caboose Industries Operating Manual Ground Throws (or more accurately the Caboose resembles this one).

Not sure if many modern railroad switches are thrown manually this way - but I like them in my yard.
