I have a charging base from a Legacy Expansion Set. Right now I have it plugged into a wall outlet where it is powered continuously with/without a remote in the base. Does having it on 24/7 harm it or should I add it to the same electrical circuit as my Legacy Base where I turn it on and off when I am either in the room or out of it? If I move it to the control board and turn it off with a partially charged Remote does that have an effect on the fully charging of the remote's batteries? I would like to hear how and why you have your bases powered.

I have my base powered 24/7 to a wall outlet. The remote is only in the cradle once a week to charge for an hour.
Volphin,
Is this a charging base you have plugged in 24/7 or your signal/charging base
It's from an expansion set, so it's a charging-only base.
No, it shouldn't hurt it, but you could just plug it in when you wanted to charge the CAB2...
I missed that John, good point post deleted.

DOH! Signal base... sorry! Working on 48 hrs with 1 hr sleep.
We have two people going, very confusing.
Is there a Hysteresis affect with the batteries supplied by Lionel? If there is then turning the charger off before fully charging would prematurely kill the batteries.
They're NiMh batteries, no memory effect.
Gunrunner,
thank-you for your answer. I believe that I could then safely plug my 993 base in where I have my 990 base plugged in with no concerns so that everything in my train room goes dark when I leave the room.
That's how I have mine plugged, both to the same power switch. I don't recharge in the #990, even though it's charger works fine. It just seems to get the remote warmer than I like, even after the batteries are charged. When I charge in the #993, I come back when the charge is completed and the remote is room temperature, no heating due to internal circuitry.
Being somewhat conservative when it comes to leaving power on and unattended, only time mine is on is when the layout is on. I do NOT use the recharging capability, switched over to alkaline, and that works for me. Not high battery turnover. Issue I had as I received my unit with the JLC Big Boy promotion, the base had some issues initially, and still get very hot. Didn't like leaving it on overnight. (My parents house burned do to electrical issue, so always careful since. Didn't think the benefit justified the risk. IMHO)
