My 6-28559 Chessie GP30 is in the hands of lionel after a long fall to the cement floor.  The lionel tech said the shell is cracked in too many places for him to attempt to remove it as they do not have a replacement shell. One motor is dead and the smoke unit does not work. Question 1 are there other shells available that might fit?  i did not think of asking the rep when I spoke to him. 2. Is it worth trying to fix. When I get it back I thought I might go ahead and remove the shell and see what happens although I have not been inside a loco yet.

thanks , rick

Rick,

Do you get this engine fixed?

1. You should check with Lionel to see if the new GP35 shell will fit on this engine. The new Conrail GP35 shells are missing the logo so Lionel is going to replace them for customers. This should make a few GP35 shells available.

2. If you are not going to fix the engine,  let me know if you would like to sell it. I have a project I could use this engine for ( instead a potentially destroying a perfectly good engine). My e-mail address is in my profile.

Regards,

Calvin

Ricklab, I just checked my parts inventory and it appears we have 2 locos in the boneyard and 2 shells in the boneyard too. I would imagine an arrangement could be made to sell one of those shells, although I would be more confident laying my eyes on them first to see their condition and determine if they have any significant deco flaws before committing to something we could not deliver on. I have been in MI since Thursday last week and will not be back in the office until Wednesday. If you'd like I could check the condition of those shells? Thanks, Mike Lionel
