An email went out this afternoon from Greg Bosak, owner of Chicagoland Hobby, announcing Greg's intention to retire and to sell the business. Chicagoland is one of the three major O gauge train stores in the Chicago area. I hope that Greg is successful in finding a buyer for his excellent store and can begin his well-deserved retirement. Here's what he said:

A Letter From The Owner . . .

In May of 1972 my father, Richard Bosak, purchased Hobby Service and Supply. He changed the name to Downtown Hobby within a couple of years. We had a total of 3 locations. First, 22 W Madison (subway arcade) from 1972 to 1982. Second, we moved to the First National Bank Plaza from 1982 to 1984. Third, is our final location 6017 N Northwest Hwy. In 1986 we changed the name to Chicagoland Toys & Hobbies.

I, Greg Bosak, have been with the store since 1975. There has been some wonderful people that I have worked with that I will always remember. My best experiences have been with the customers. I have learned so much from them and I thank you all for your wisdom and friendships.

We just celebrated 50 years in business and have great memories, but it is time for me to retire. I would like to pass the business to someone else and do some traveling. As of 6/10/22 Chicagoland Hobby is for sale. Any interested parties can contact me at 773-775-4848.

This is really an interesting development.  I was just in there earlier this week and they are stuffed with used (mostly gently used) O gauge equipment and some more recent items.  They also carry a nice selection of trains in other scales, but not much 2-rail O scale.  Also, they are not just a train store; they carry model (operable) airplanes, model kits and a bunch of other stuff.
