Earlier this season, we had a club member experience a catastrophic failure of a PS3 locomotive. AKA "it let the magic smoke out" rendering the engine inoperable. Concurrently, the fixed output TIU channel that was running that track stopped working. We have since switched a variable output to fixed and returned to operation.

Since then there has been chatter about the TIU "taking out the engine". My thought is the engine took out the TIU channel, not the other way around. What is the more likely scenario?

Is that the PS-3 version?  The board has a temp sensor for motor function.  If that section of board gets too hot it will shutdown motor function.  Does not look like a loss of AC, but...   How many trains being pulled and how long in operation?   What is the power source and how many amps being drawn.  G
