Hi, As you may already know, I am scratch-building a model of The Milwaukee Road's Wausau, Wi. depot.
I got pieces of basswood to start making the structure. I could have used birch plywood also. Are there enough advantages to use one over the other? I thank all in advance for your replies.

I use a lot of both. Basswood tends to warp a bit sometimes in the presents of large amount of wood glue, more in my experience than some other woods, particularly the high quality (and high cost unfortunately) model plywood: my experience is that it is a bit stronger and just never warps.
Paul, I use a lot of Northwest Lumber siding and clapboard. I am sure they have something that may suit your project with scale lumber in mind. You can purchase it in various lengths and thickness and spacing at most hobby shops and of course online. That along with Grandt Line windows, doors and accents and you are in business.
I have very little luck finding scale wood at LHS's, certainly those in this ara.....I pick it up from Micro-Mark's catalog or from the Canadian outfit at York.
