My sons brand new last year Ives Standard Gauge tinplate chose Christmas morning to stop running. Wondering if y'all have any quick ideas. The engine will start up sometimes, will roll forward about an inch and all the sound cuts off and it stops. Has been running fine since it was set up on Wednesday.

Ive checked the track and taken a look at the bottom of the loco. Pretty sure it's not a short.

thanks.Merry Christmas!

I guess Murphy is up early this Christmas!  I am not familiar with this set but if there are electronics involved, a power off and restart of everything may be in order.  I picked up a Lionel Silver Bells Christmas set this year (the wife liked it!) and I found that if you leave the track powered on and the train not running for a period of time it won't respond to the remote.  Cycling the power resets it.

Also, to echo what has already been said, clean the track and pickup rollers.

Best of luck and Merry Christmas.

Tony
