What options are out there for adding a steam chug sound?

Ideally it needs to be something mechanically triggered, like the old Lionel "Mighty Sound of Steam" systems.

I'd like to be able to fit two into a Lionel "starter set" style tender. One for each set of drivers in my kitbashed Mallet locomotive.

Then, when the lead drivers have that little wheelslip on startup, you'd get a cool "chugchug... chug... chug... chug..." effect

Maybe you could get a playing card, a clothespin, and mount a spoke on one of the tender's wheels?

Serious, what I have done is bought used Railsounds tenders at swap meets, etc.  Sometimes I just switch them out for the RTR loco's tender, other times do a transplant from one to the other to add sound to the original tender: whatever works easiest.

Well, the stock Lionel Sound of steam boards are too large to fit 2 in a 6026 style tender, along with a speaker. I don't know how well 2 boards feeding the same speaker will work out. About the only possibility I can see for what you want is a Electric RR Co. Articulated steam sound board and run it in conventional mode.
