Last Sunday I had an operating session with a couple dozen friends over. We ran with a dispatcher, 3 yard masters, and 6 two-man teams of engineers and conductors.

Most of my track is now complete and we just finished installing Tortoise switch machines. Jim is now building and installing control panels. I am now starting to turn my attention to scenery with most of my work concentrated on my small Midwestern town of Spencer, Iowa.

While I love to work on scenery, I decided that having a smooth running layout that could be operated by a large group of friends in as prototypical a manner as possible was going to be my first priority. We still have a ways to go, but it keeps getting better with every session.

Here is a video assembled from the pictures that were taken by several people.

Thanks everybody, we did have a great time.

Zett - I really like the Tortoise machines. They have been very relaible so far. They are much better at keeping the closure rails tight and preventing derailments. I also am glad to get rid of the ugly switch machines on top of the layout.

Brian - You were definitely missed. Everyone that knows you asked about you and sends their best wishes. The California Zephyr is my favorite as well. And we have the only two known observation cars with a blinking rear strobe light thanks to Jim.

Jim B. - You are most welcome and I regret that I didn't invite you, my oversight. Are you going to Trainfest this year? If so, which day or days? Would love to meet you then.
