I have read that Lionel at some point made and sold a set of accessories that mimic the midway of a circus, but I have struggled to find such a product line. I am *not* asking about circus cars -- those are easy to find -- I mean more like side show/carnival type accessories.
What I am wondering is whether anyone can tell me:
Is this a fever dream? Or something that actually exists?

To help answer your what’s available question, there is a bunch on eBay right now. Duck shoot, Basketball toss, Milk bottle toss, Cotton candy booth and Race track booth. Also, ebay has a bunch of the different powered Lionel carnival rides like swing, Ferris wheel, strength, ballon ride, pirate ship, scrambler.
On eBay type in “Lionel Carnival” and the part numbers and photos show up
Thank you! In fact, I have had some success in finding a couple of those booths, but I think I had overly restricted my search terms, and that's why I was missing out on the powered accessories you mentioned (which, in fact, are the very focus of my query).
I think that K-line by Lionel also had some circus accessories to go along with the circus cars.

I have a bunch of Lemax circus stuff from Menards that work well with O Gauge. Not sure they still sell it, but you may be able to find some. The pieces are really delicate, but fun!
