This seems to share a prototype with the above locomotive, but in a much larger scale, my guess is that they both based on the same set of model plans. Both look a bit like the B&O’s Tatcher Perkins but with smaller drivers. I wouldn’t be surprised if this model dated from the early 1960’s, since that’d be when Civil War centennial had gotten a lot of people interested in the time period.

I wonder how SMR Kit boxcars would look behind her? Since period rolling stock is smaller they might work in spite of minor scale differences. She’d look good at the head of a Union troop train!

That looks sort of like an engine built by Ed Alexander built that's shown at the TCA Western Division site - the caption under the model states Alexander built a 4-4-0 and matching cars that was purchased by Gilbert and was used as the inspiration for its Frontiersman 4-4-0 and matching cars:

No mention of scale on the TCA caption, and zooming in doesn't produce a sharp image - did Alexander ever dabble in making custom S scale locomotives?

Hello

Alexander is given credit for the Franklin ( old time ) engine for Flyer .

Here is the photo of the set next to the production set ...as shown in Alexander's book .

Alexander was a custom builder ...mostly O scale and larger ...unknown if he did any other S gauge pieces .

The 4-6-0 appears to patterned after the Thacker Perkins .. presevered in Baltimore
