IF I understand correctly to run Conventional engines with Legacy and a new ZW-L transformer a Power Master is required.  One for each loop of track, correct?

I stopped in a train store today and asked the only person there IF I wanted to run using the hand held remote what would I need?  He indicated that even with the newest transformer I still need the Power Master to use the hand held.  Then indicated that their were two possibly three different Power Master units.  The TPC 300, TPC 400, and a new unit coming out which is not available yet.

So I looked at the latest Power catalog and a 180 watt unit (6-37146) is available, and the newest is a 360 watt unit (6-82883) will not be available until June.

So can any give me an idea what I need to get?  (Have two oval tracks, and one channel allocated for Sidings and Engine yard.)  Then using a differen transformer, a ZW-C for controlling switches, accessories, and lights.

Thanks for any information.

You are welcome. I really don't know a lot about the ZW-L, but had read they basically have the powermasters built in and can be controlled by the Cab2. I am more familiar with MTH, Lionel not so much (reason I included the manual link). Maybe MartyE or one of the others around here more familiar with Lionel will be along to explain further.

That is correct that the ZW-L effectively contains four powermasters. You should probably find a new hobby shop guy as the current one doesn't know his own products.

You can connect each of your loops to it's own handle on the ZW and that would then allow you to run two different conventional engines on each loop or you can run a conventional loco on one loop and any number of command locos on the other.
