Clear Shell Gang Car - Or new Honda Accord

All I can say is MAZEL TOV.....me,I would take the Honda....LOL

I believe this was probably part of the Lionel archives they were auctioning today.  A chance to own a unique piece of Lionel history but way too much for me.

Hey congratulation to the winning bidder. The last couple of auctions have not generated any interest for me. I will be waiting for the next modern O gauge auction. Hopefully it will have some GGD and/ or Sunset PRR models!

If I wanted to see the inside of a Gang Car, I think I'd just take the shell off.

If you paid $25k for an Accord you paid too much.  About the gang car, no comment.

No more foolish, IMHO, than than buying the $1000 + locos so many buy, but again, that's their business. 

That would have been another Corvette in the garage! 

I don't know about that car man, too many questions.                                                                                                                                   a.) That plastic looks too clear to me, I would think it would be yellowed more by now just with time. There are very nice reproduction available now and it would't take too much effort to run a few off in clear plastic.                                                                 b.) If it was a 'salesman sample' I would think it would be from the first run, with gray bumpers and the men in reverse colors.          c.) I looked closely, and the men do not look like originals. The figures are too rounded and the paint on the face looks too good, exactly like the reproductions now available.

d.) I have never read or heard of a clear shell #50 in any collector book.  

I hope the car came with strong province.          

I found this page in the Greenberg book and no mention of a clear shell gang car. If someone did really pay $25,000+, he definitely was not the winner! The person who put it together was.

I'd still rather take the shell off to look at the inside.

Sort of reminds me of the money laundering scheme portrayed in the Hugh Grant movie Mickey Blue Eyes. (I had to look it up).

Essentially, worthless paintings were being auctioned and generating huge sums of money.

(Though I have to admit before the commentary here, I didn't know if this was a real PW prototype or not)
