I'm trying to get the colors straight in my head, for Jersey Central diesels, and would be grateful to those with knowledge about this subject, if you can enhance my understanding.

1.  When were the Baby Face Baldwins and the F3's repainted from blue and orange, to dark green with the ribbon stripes?

2. Did the Baldwins and/or the F3's ever wear a later paint style?

3.  Were the early road switchers (F-M H15-44, RS1, GP7) delivered from the factory in green with ribbon stripes?

4.  Did they ever wear blue with ribbon stripes, or was the blue just plain, with lettering and a herald?

Thanks to any who can clear my fog on this.

Tom, the two charts below (taken from Gerard Bernet's book "Jersey Central Diesels") should answer all of your questions.  Please excuse the quality as I simply snapped photos of the two pages with my iPhone to post here.

I can provide higher-quality scanned copies if you contact me via the email address in my profile.  Feel free to ask any other questions!

Also, a summary was done a while ago on the ARHS groups list:

"Road switchers, cab units in about '47 when they first arrived were dark blue with tangerine- the only road switchers painted this way were the Fairbanks Morse H-15/H16 whichever it was, plus GM and Baldwin cab units and the double enders.

By about 1953 the blue and tangerine was replaced with a blue-green which somewhere got the name of sea mist"

That cleared it up for me.  Thanks to everyone who replied.

Joe A. . . . Good heavens, I had no idea that there were that many variations. It was obvious that the painters had to read the bulletin book faithfully.

LOL!  From blue & orange to green & gold to just green to blue & yellow to red & white...with variations of each.  Almost all the colors of the rainbow were used by the CNJ in the evolution of its diesel paint schemes!!
