Piston,
I heat my home with Coal. I use the Oiled Rice Coal with a newer Harmon Self Feeder Stove. Ever since we switched to the Oiled Coal (this year) we have less than 2% dust now in my basement. Our stove is about 15-17 feet away from my New Layout.
My basement is finished and we absolutely have no issues with out setup.
Not once have I run my finger on or near the layout and come up with Coal Dust on it.
So I say "Hoorahhh!!!" for the new oiled coal.
I was also concerned about heating with coal and trains, but we are 100% happy and see no problem with our O Gauge Layout.
tHANKS WILL TRY TO FIND OILED COAL. i LIVE IN NORTHEAST PA. HOME OF ANTHRACITE COAL.
Piston,
Same here for NE Pa. I am in Tunkhannock.
This year we purchased our Oiled Coal from Fireplace Gallery on Rt.29 just outside Noxen. He is just at the intersection of Rt 29 and Rt 309.
We used to buy from Hudson Anthracite on Saylor Ave. in Laflin just outside of Pittston.
Hope this helps a little bit more.
Are you burning with Rice Coal also.
If not I have No Idea if the Walnut sized stuff is oiled.
thanks for the info. I I live in Long Pond. home of the pocono speedway.
