the cost of demolition would be offset by the lessen of personal property taxes on unimproved property. put another way, the rr pays the local govt so much per 1000.00 in property taxes each year. if the property has a structure on it, the assessed value is larger than property that is "not improved". just like the house you live in. my house costs me 2700.00 a year in taxes, but the "unimproved property" I own next to the house, which only has trees on it, is 98.00 a year. yes, I know 2700.00 is "cheap" compared to some of our northern neighbors, but as many more folks flock here, that will change too!

we just had a large chemical plant, that incurred the rath of the comm of the revenue, build a brand new 90 million dollar plant in Canada and tore down the almost new one here!  While they were at it, the company also tore down many other "unused facilities" and have plans to take even more down in 2014! This was done so that the company didn't have to pay ppt to the city! same thing with the coal bunker! no bunker, less taxes!

A lot less than the damages awarded in the law suit that would be filed when it tumbled down unannounced on top of someone. If they didn't tear that thing down, it would have eventually imploded all by itself.
