preface this with the following, the earth is not flat nor is it one color,  probably more colors than there are brushes to paint them with.

When you are finished with terrain, that is finished with the plaster of paris, the molding, the creation of strata, bumps, boulders what have you, Now it is serious time with paint,

I sort of cheat using the woodland scenics plaster of paris either carv, mold or build up on thier system i add some color to the water, been doing that a bit and it works, not the oppressive white all the time.  if you want to change something, add more or less color to the water so you can see where you are 're doing'  it works

Now for the color, i take a piece of cardboard and make it into a , palate.  Then i take 1/2 dozen or so colors of acrylic and put a drob (always wanted to write drob) of paint on it.  now when painting the basic terrain i have all kinds of colors to chose from

dark, light, red, brown, green what have you and then i daub the paint on usually do not brush it bu daub it on

this is first attempt, one thing about acrylic you can go over and over and over and so what it is cheap, probably the only thing in this hobby that is.  i bought a bunch of acrylic at 25 cents a bottle at a flea market
