Coloring Lamps

I use Testers Candy Colors. Clean the bulbs real good with alcohol before painting. I've been doing so for years without problems at 8-10 volts. I hope this helps.

Tamiya makes several "clear' colors for coloring bulbs. I just dip the bulb in the jar up to the metal base and then place it in a carboard holder to dry. I know they have at least green, red, blue, & yellow.

You could probably spray them (airbrush), but I never took the time to try that approach.

Thanks Happy Pappy, D&H and C.W.  I'll give them a try. The lamps that are in the #153 Block Signal need a coating with excellent adhesion that will resist being removed when I have to remove the lamp.

I've done this with the same Tamiya Acrylic Clear colors, but it takes me several dips to get a decent coat on the bulbs.

Thanks John. The "light" coating might be just what I need. 

On my 450 (dual) signal bridge I can run one track loop at near full voltage and the lamps are bright enough..... but on another track loop I can't and the green lamp I bought  & installed just isn't.

right now I'm trying nail "polish"  I bought at the dollar store to see if that will work.

If it does, I don't think I will beat that price!

I thought of nail polish, the right shade should be fairly transparent.  The Tamiya paint does give a whole different color to the bulbs than the commercial red/green bulbs.

I bought acrylic paint at Hobby Lobby that did not say opaque on the label.  My signal

now has its two lights back.
