I have a REV L TIU  that I just got back several weeks ago after MTH did troubleshooting for an electrical short.  I have been trying to update the software so that I can install my new Wi-Fi unit.  There are two problems which a couple of hours on the phone with MTH and several emails and photographs have unfortunately not been able to solve

After downloading the DCS loader and 5.0 and 6.0 DCS software updates, I followed the instructions in the loader with respect to connection of the TIU using a USB to USB connection.  The loader initially finds the TIU on COM7 and opens a window to select the update file.  The loader does not see the 6.0 update which shows as an application but did recognize the 5.0 which shows as a DCS file.  When I select that file and hit start the loader seems to be working then gives a message that it is having trouble finding the tiu and just sits there.  Photo attached.   Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.20170828_094817

Kevin,

The loader does not see the 6.0 update which shows as an application but did recognize the 5.0 which shows as a DCS file.

The Loader Program will only recognize TIU update files that have a .dcst extender. Make sure that you are using Loader Porgam 5.0.

When I select that file and hit start the loader seems to be working then gives a message that it is having trouble finding the tiu and just sits there.

Typical reasons that the TIU is found when doing a Search from the Loader Program's top menu but not found when actually doing a TIU upgrade, include:

  • The 1/8" jumper cable between the ProtoDispatch and ProtoCast ports isn't installed.
  • The 1/8" jumper cable between the ProtoDispatch and ProtoCast ports is mono rather than stereo. It must be stereo.
  • The 1/8" jumper cable between the ProtoDispatch and ProtoCast ports is installed, however, the TIU was not powered off when the cable was inserted. Note that if the PC is connected to the TIU via the TIU's USB port, that connection is powering the TIU.

The process of doing the TIU upgrade is as follows:

  • Remove all power from the TIU, including Fixed Channel #1 Input; the Aux. Power port; the USB port (for a Rev. L TIU only).
  • Insert a 1/8" stereo jumper cable between the ProtoDispatch and ProtoCast ports.
  • Connect the TIU to the PC.
  • Restore power to the TIU. It's red LED should immediately come on steady, without any blinking.
  • Start the upgrade process.

I downloaded the 6.0 software again and it showed up as a dcst file and loaded to the tiu.  My follow the directions to send code to the remote initiated start and it found the 6.00 DCSr file.  At first it said it was loading and asked me to hold release hold release the power button on the remote about 35 times.  Then the power came on on the remote so I shut it down and tried it again only to get the message again that the program is having a hard time finding a tiu ...see photo.  I tried it with two different remotes with the same result.  20170828_18230220170828_185044

Kevin,

Did you remove the 1/8" stereo jumper and then power cycle the TIU off na then on again, ensuring that the red LED did blink at least once? If not, the TIU will not be found by the remote update process.

If that's not the case, ensure that the telephone handset cable is plugged into the remote input port and not the AIU port, and that the cable itself is 4-conductor.
