Command Control in a PW 671 or 681?

If you don't want to go with a motor transplant for the 671, you'd use the ERR AC Commander and the ERR RailSounds Commander with the Steam Turbine sound set.  All the existing stuff like the E-Unit would indeed be removed.

Thanks @gunrunnerjohn.  Yeah, I was hoping not to do a motor transplant, the 70 year old one is running pretty good.  I am really not a big fan of sound options for anything.  So would an ERR AC Commander by itself work well?  I only want to be able to control the speed and direction of the locomotive.  I'm fine with having the smoke unit always on through track power, but if there's a way to turn it off and on through the board I guess that'd be cool.

I did not proceed with that project any farther than getting the Dremel. It's funny you would post this because I was looking at that locomotive a few weeks ago when I was recording for a Youtube video. I would like to finish it! Maybe I'll bump it up the list.

I wish you luck on whatever you decide.  Once I finish the Speeder, I do want to tackle the 681.  I bought that guy at a Stout auction, runs great and is in excellent shape, but I have no emotional attachment to that one.  If I'm successful with it, I'll probably take on my original 671RR so it won't feel lonely with no command control and all its buddies have it.

For just the AC Commander, it should fit in the locomotive, but I haven't done that particular locomotive, so I can't be sure.  One issue you'll have with that upgrade is finding a suitable antenna for the TMCC.  Since the handrails aren't insulated, you'll have to adlib.
