We're looking for a scale Santa Fe dummy B unit (preferably Lionel) to mate up with a Scale AA pair of Warbonnets and most seem to have TMCC w/a backup light and electro-coupler.

What is the practicality of having these features (and associated cost) when most are used in an ABA or ABBA configuration?

I realize that occasionally, an AB or even ABB setup is used but these are certainly not 'the norm'...

By the way - anyone have a dummy B available?

Sam, the scale non powered B units you are looking for all came with ABA sets. The powered B would have been an add on. Someone would have to break up a set to offer an unpowered B. The powered Bs come up all the time on the Bay and some go for reasonable prices (<half list). There were two powered Bs made ~2004 and again ~2005. They are essentially identical other than the number.

The remote uncoupler on the unpowered B is a useful feature BTW.

Sam, I think the later ones had the single drive high water trucks. The 6-24533 (2004 Train 18) has the more common 2 axle per truck drive and no Odyssey switch but you can turn cruise on and off with key strokes. The 6-24562 (2005 Train 19) has the switch but otherwise identical to the earlier one. I have them both. The main nit I have with these engines is coupling distance. I think its about 3/4" between diaphrams but I am working to close that up.

What is the part number for the engines you have?
