I have one PS/2 engine out of around 40 that when I learn it into the remote, power the track and the remote down, then power both back up and try to access the engine, I get CHECK TRACK.  I can then relearn the engine into the remote just fine.  Repeat the process and it happens again.  This engine has been on the track and in weekly use for several years.

I have replaced the battery, which shows about 2.4 volts on my meter, twice.

I have taken the engine to a dealers track, it seems to work fine.

I have reflashed the handheld and the TIU to the latest version.

I have checked for crimped wire and I have run the engine without the shell.

I have done a factory reset using the remote control.

I am at a loss of what to try.

To test a batery it must be under load.

It may have picked up just enough charge to hold a new DCS ID# once.

None of the above were likely to correct the problem.

Do two things:

  • First, charge the battery for several hours, either using the MTH battery charger or by leaving it on a track with 12 volts or so.
  • If that doesn't correct the problem, look for a disconnected or broken wire between the battery and the PS2 board.

If you have a coopy of The DCS O gauge Companion 2nd Edition, look at Battery Related Problems on pages 159-163.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!
