thankfully there are no fatalities. some serious injuries though.
this has completely halted all traffic between NY and Boston, and may until at least Monday.

For all the years that I commuted to Stamford I do not recall a derailment. We had wires down or a pantograph get ripped off and the occasional track crossing incidents.
Will be interesting to see what the root cause was. The article says two tracks out of service which I assume means repair/rework in my mind. Who knows, spike or tool on rail head or switch points slightly opened. Speculation is endless. One case where PTC wouldn't help.

Surprised they could rerail cars and get them moving as a train. Figured the most damaged one would be put on flatcar. Guess wreck crews do perform "miracles".
