I guess this is something of a general question - Do you have a desktop / “regular” computer in your train room and if so do you find it useful ???

We were recently given a 27” iMac and no one in the family wants or needs it - We have another one in the office area of our home that I use all the time - from the train room to the office is just down the steps however my family is telling me I NEED this computer 🙄🤣

Am I wasting my time setting this up ??? - it takes 5 minutes 😊 - I do have an out of the way spot for it

Thanks in advance

I have a computer in the workshop and it's invaluable.  Things on it:

  • Inventory (spreadsheets) - locomotives, rolling stock, building materials, electrical components
  • Diagrams (Visio) - wiring, structures
  • Track plans (RR-Track)
  • Arduino programs & environments

It's pretty much essential.

I have toyed with putting a computer and monitor in the trainroom for the purpose of installing a fast clock.  Still TBD.

I use my computer in my train room all the time, Where else would it be so handy to read your OGR post and to answer the posts with all my model RR photographs stored in the computer. I scratch build all my models and the computer is right there with photos, graphs and anything else I need to make signs, siding, buildings, bridges right at my finger tips.

The Computer helped me build my layout.
