Hi 3d printers, my question to all of you--what must a computer's spec. be for 3d printing?

It's not the 3D printing- it's the slicing - AKA print file generation that may or may not need some horsepower.
What is your intended slicer application? That's the specs that matter
Orca slicer as a common example:
Are you intending to do CAD design to design models- what CAD software and it's requirements?
Example Onshape- an online cloud based CAD application- you still need a decent graphics card for local rendering and decent RAM the more complex the model gets.
VS Autodesk Fusion with a lot higher requirements https://www.autodesk.com/suppo...desk-Fusion-360.html
Again, to run a 3D printer, there are scenarios were the lowest performance web tablet on the planet can tell the printer to run pre-sliced files-

thanks Vernon, as you can tell I know nothing about 3d printing other than I'm in the thinking stage. I have been looking at tutorials of printers online, but they don't really explain anything about computer needs--maybe they do, and I didn't know what to look for---now I how something else to look into--thanks Greg
I'm running a somewhat aging HP with Windows 10, it does have a decent processor and plenty of memory.
My limitation is the video board, that's where you'll find the delays. My display board is a fairly anemic Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, that's my limiting factor.

For frustrationless slicing you need to have both graphics and processing speed. I'm using a HP laptop with Intel I7 @ 2.8 GHz (8 cores), Intel Xe graphics, and just 8 GB of RAM. I expect that I get a performance boost because it's equipped with a SSD. I find that the only delays I see is with the actual slicing computation. Manipulating the display is quick and responsive with no discernible delays.

FWIW, I am not endorsing this, just explaining what I am currently using for my personal hobby needs. I am very happy with this setup for everything I am doing.

I use this computer that I put together probably 8 to 10 years ago. Whenever windows 10 came out.
Windows 10 64 bit.
Processor AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor 3.50 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB
Product ID 00325-80000-00000-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display
I built it for audio recording.
I use prusa slicer, turbcad Cad software and have an old ender 3 printer. Nothing here is state of the art but everything works fine.

Vernon are you using windows 11 on that computer?
