Congressional set

I'm not sure 100% in real life, but Lionel has made F-3's and other F-units to pull the Congressional cars, at least in the 70's. The cars also match the Pennsy EP-5's.

Thanks for the info. I should have stated that I meant the postwar Lionel sets. There was an F3 that pulled them now that you mention it, but I forget which one. But was there any steamers?

Like the PRR, Lionel headed Congressional sets with GG-l's, as posted by PRRTrainguy.

 

Anything is possible, but diesels or steam on the Congressional would be nothing short of a miracle.

 

I vaguely recall a photo of a Reading unit pulling Congressional cars when something required a detour on non-electrified territory.

Unless it snowed !!! welcome too Nebraska, we can have , hail,  Gail  force winds,  Snow and Tornadoes all within a 6 hour period.   Documented!!!

 

  Fine snow would stall a GG1...  Even PRR stated diesels were under wire on special occasion!!!   Fine Snow.

Lionel made a Congressional set around 1960 with Santa Fe F-3s with black trucks. Forgot the names on the cars. They had yellow trim.

 

My favorite set for looks on my home layout is Williams Congressional cars with a Railking PS-1 Pennsy turbine pulling them.

In the Post War Era ,the cars with the yellow( Gold I believe) stripes were in a Presidential series. They were cataloged 1962-66. There was a set with a single stripe GG1 No. 13078 . Gold Letterboards were marked Pullman, Vista Dome and Observation. Pennsylvania. Congressional cars , aluminum with tuscan letter board stripes as the prototype were in 1955-56 and Lionel offered Congressional sets with GG1s in those two years.
