Hello Everyone!

Now that my DCS issues have settled down and track signal issues are pretty much under control (with ALL of your help...I couldn't have done it without you!) I'm moving on to the next phase of my layout....connecting the TMCC command base to my TIUs.

As you may remember, I'm running 2 TIUs (which are now Rev. L's) via Super TIU through the Variable ports. I do this so that:
1. I can run my Conventional engines along with PS2/PS3 engines (not at the same time) and
2. I can share the electrical load across 4 PW ZWs.

My question is, how does one connect the TMCC command base to multiple TIUs?

I've read the chapters in Barry's book (version 3) and in the latest MTH DCS (5th Edition) manual and I understand that the TMCC ground has to be connected to the Common on all Terminal Blocks that feed the track blocks. But with 2 TIUs, which TIU do I connect the TIU/TMCC Connector cable to....TIU1, TIU2, both??

I've done internet searches, searched the forums here and really haven't found any discussions that might cover this topic.

As always, I hope someone has some insight on how to best make this connection.

Thanks!

Hello GunRunnerJohn! Good to hear from you. I was expecting something complicated....no wonder I couldn't figure it out !

I see you're a MTH ASC Certified Technician. I have a quick question for you. I unboxed a RailKing Santa Fe 4-8-4 and fired it up. It ran just fine except for the sound....could barely hear it.

After removing the tender top, I saw the speaker and it looked like it was covered with some kind of "fuzz". But it wasn't fuzz......it was particles from the speaker's magnet. It looked like it was covered with iron filings! Have you ever seen this before?? I'm guessing these particles are keeping the speaker's voice coil from moving? What a mess!

Well, this is an older model, right?  First off, do NOT run it any more until you get the speaker replaced!  This was something that was happening to a lot of the older 5V models with a 16 ohm speaker, the coating coming off the magnet.  In an extreme case, these can actually short to the frame and kill the audio amp, not a good thing.

I have 16 ohm replacement speakers if you need one.

Yep...this is an older model. The markings on the speaker are "STATR or STAER or STAR NR-05009-01 16 ohm 5W 354E".

I emailed MTH on 9/2 and heard from Kirstin on 9/6 that she passed my email on to the Parts Dept. I was thinking MTH might cover it as a defective product...but now I kinda doubt it (not sure what happened to the font here).

Anyway, I have a request in to MTH so I'll wait to see what they say. But I do appreciate the help .......

And yes...I'll stop running the engine.

Thanks for the help with the TMCC/DCS connection......

GunRunnerJohn.....I'll email you to find out the cost of the speaker with shipping and how you handle payment. I'm guessing your replacement speakers don't suffer from a bad coating.....

Gregg.....Thanks for the heads up about adding TMCC engines to the TIU the Command Base is attached to. I'm hoping TMCC engines can run across TIUs using Super TIU like MTH engines do.....
