I'm looking at ordering a new O scale model of the CR SD80MAC. On the rear of the long hood (on the porch) there's a metal rectangular cabinet on some models but not all? Was this cabinet just on earlier models and then removed?

MTH and Lionel had them on their CR models. The new MTH release doesn't show them. Was the rear of the hood modified? Was this cabinet removed? What was it for? Maybe just certain roads ordered it with them?
