conventional = ++

I love conventional!!!

I have a pair of Mth Ps-1 Alco PA's, and I love them! They look beautiful, sound great, and run flawless (I like the horn, too)! I think they are a blast to run in conventional!

I think conventional is fun to use and easy to operate. I tought my brother when he was 3, and he can just go up to the transformer and run trains!

I set up an 8'x8' floor layout last month when my son and his 2 children came for a stay.  All 3 know how to use my DCS system/remote and have done so for years now (they kids are 8 and 6).

 

Well, for this most recent temp layout I made it 100% conventional.  8 switches, all wired to use controllers.  Two trains running with cornfield meets possible.  Two transformers so that each kid had one of their own.

 

They had more fun with it than any time that I ever remember.  It was obvious how much they enjoyed the hands on - I think it gave them more of a feeling of actually controlling things.

 

My grandson liked using the switch controllers so much that he asked if I would use them, instead of the remote, for my Christmas layout!

 

Yes, conventional surely has its place!

I like running conventional with the DCS remote. I can be anywhere around the layout to watch the trans run other than where the throttle handle is. Still there is nothing wrong with using a throttle handle.

 

The problem with running PS-3 in conventional, once you see it run on DCS, you will be bit by the DCS bug.

    You are now experiencing why I like my old Conventional Tin Plate engines run with the DCS hand held remote, all the hands on fun is there and both the kids and I have a fantastic time.  The Z4k adds another level of enjoyment with the P2 Tin Plate Engines also.  There is a lot of enjoyment in Conventional and P2 stuff running at the same time also.  The more you understand the engineering in the DCS package the more and different things you can do with controlling & running both conventional & P type engines.
