I always thought that some guys are just putting off upgrading to command. I have a three rail loop of Realtrax for testing (goes around the Christmas tree) and just got a RK PS1 Amtrak engine for a gift and put her on that track. I also got a Z4000 finally and it made running this pretty fun. So I thought, let's see how the new engines do!
I took a new BN SD45 w/ ps3 that I just got from Sal Ross and gave her a run. The sounds were great and the lights work like they should. The headlight comes on and then gets brighter as she comes out of neutral. The sounds get lively and she ran smooth. I played with it for a few minutes and realized that moving that big handle must have an effect on guys. I watched it shift into reverse and played with the brake sounds. I must have blew the horn more than enough. It brought a smile to my face.
I like long trains and will stay with command. If I've put down conventional in the past, I was wrong. I got plenty of enjoyment out of running just one engine around a circle of track. I usually use.... uh ummm....TMCC around the tree with a SS M1 Pennsy. I let the grandkids have the remote because there's not many buttons to go wrong for them. I get to watch while they run.
I think I'll try conventional this year with this Z4000 and more PS3s. It makes running much easier and smoother. Seems like I'm learning as if I went back in time????
