I just acquired an MTH GP38-2. It runs beautiful with no issues. It has a very little running on it.  But I would like to upgrade it to a PS3 sound system. Do any of you have any recommendations of a good tech that is familiar of doing this kind of conversion. I live in Florida. But it doesn’t matter the location. I prefer an honest experience technician

Thank You

Nick

Personally, I wouldn’t be in any hurry to upgrade.  I don’t notice that much difference between PS2 and PS3 sounds, though that 2001 loco doesn’t have the SXS feature that I like.  I would check the capacitor that is known to cause 5V board failures.  Hard to see without removing the board, but if it looks like this or you can see it is a WINCAP, then I would have the capacitor changed out.  Otherwise, I would install a BCR and just run it.  The 5V boards have a bad reputation, but I have a few that have given me many miles of service.
