Conversion from PS2 to PS3

George @GGG is highly experienced at these conversions. You must have the kit in hand for him to do the work. MTH has not had these in stock for quite a long time.

Personally, I wouldn’t be in any hurry to upgrade.  I don’t notice that much difference between PS2 and PS3 sounds, though that 2001 loco doesn’t have the SXS feature that I like.  I would check the capacitor that is known to cause 5V board failures.  Hard to see without removing the board, but if it looks like this or you can see it is a WINCAP, then I would have the capacitor changed out.  Otherwise, I would install a BCR and just run it.  The 5V boards have a bad reputation, but I have a few that have given me many miles of service.

That's my P5a before you replaced it a few months ago.
