I have bought a couple of 2 rail engines and want to convert these units to dummies. Is this a difficult task? I have the tops off but how does one disconnect the motors from the axles? I’m running DCC and the engines currently don’t run. Thank you for any suggestions.

Do the engines have gears or chain drive? John in Lansing, ILL
Pictures, the manufacturer, item numbers, etc. are really going to help you with this.
I did forget to include that these are gear driven mth 2 rail ps2 engines. No boxes so I don’t have the item numbers. Thank you
Easy. Just un-bolt the motor from the truck (screw on bottom), remove the motor from its cradle (two more screws) then re attach the cradle to the truck while it captures the sheet metal frame. 20 minutes for the first truck, ten for the second. Save the motors, or donate them.
Thank you very much for the information and have the engines on the layout.
Why not just take out the MTH electronics and put in a DCC decoder and use the locos as real locos?
